We are seeking an Instrumentation Engineer with extensive experience in Instrumentation utilized for the final control, monitoring and safety of Gas Plants, NGL Fractionation Plants, Refineries, petrochemicals plants, Pipelines and Distribution facilities, to join the Process Automation and Systems Division, which is part of the Process & Control Systems Department. Process and Control Systems Department provides services in the field of process engineering, automation, new energy and digitalization to various entities within Aramco.
As an Instrumentation Engineer your primary role will be to provide instrumentation engineering expertise to the various Aramco entities including designing, developing, installing and troubleshooting. You will work with different disciplines such as operating sites, instrumentation engineering, facility planning, and project management. Additionally, you are expected to participate in the organization and company initiatives including safety programs, innovation programs, operational excellence, knowledge sharing, self-development and other programs as required.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide support with all types of instrumentation including but not limited to level, temperature, pressure, control valves, Emergency Isolation Valves, Motor Operated Valve, Relief Valves, flow measurement, level gauges etc.
- Originate and carry out engineering studies to determine optimal solutions to complex technical problems, increase revenue, reduce cost and improve process safety.
- Work with and/or lead Task teams assigned to investigate incidents or solve specific technical problems.
- Undertake special assignments requiring extensive technical experience and discretion when dealing with outside organizations.
- Develop and maintain Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards, Material Specifications, Procedures and Best Practices to enhance company profitability, safety and productivity by applying and interpreting key industry codes and standards relevant to instrumentation and control.
- Review and evaluate capabilities of vendors and contractors to determine their acceptability to perform major services to Saudi Aramco.
- Act as a Company representative in technical dealings with vendors, manufacturers and design firms.
- Perform technical evaluation for instrumentation quotations, and attend technical bid evaluation meetings.
- Evaluate and introduce best practices and new technologies to enable the Company to achieve Best in Class performance in oil and gas business.
- Perform cost analyses and Value Engineering studies to recommend cost-effective solutions to technical issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferably in Instrumentation, Mechanical or Electrical engineering.
- A Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering is desired but not required.
- Minimum 20 years of professional experience as an engineer in charge of technical work in the field of specialty.
- Previous work with a major international Oil & Gas Company and/or previous employment with one of the Instrumentation suppliers used by the Company is desired.
- Must have experience in plant instrumentation sizing and selection (Control valves, Pressure Relief valves, Actuators, Basic Process Measurement etc.)
- Certified in ISA- Certified Automation Professional (CAP), Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP), TUV FSEng, Principles & Practice of Engineering (PE) certification, or Chartered Engineer (C.E.) license or registration.
- Basic knowledge of H2S, LEL, pH, conductivity, O2 analyzer, CO/CO2 analyzer, fire & gas detectors and Gas chromatographs is preferred.
- Proficiency in the International codes and standards used within the oil and gas industry, i.e., API, BS, ISO, ASME, ANSI, IEC, ISA, IEEE, etc.
- Have participated as lead engineer in HAZOP, SIL, P&ID, Design and model reviews.
- Understanding of control systems, compressor and pumps field instrumentation, speed controllers, Vibration Monitoring Systems (VMS), Compressor Control Systems (CCS).
- Understanding communication protocols like DNP3, Modbus, FieldBus, TCP, IEC, SPA, RP570, ANSI and General Process Automation Protocols.
- Have been an active member in a relevant professional society, (i.e. ISA, IEEE, etc.) for a minimum of 3 years and hold current membership.
