Role accountabilities:
- Project delivery: Performing and managing required activities associated with traffic signal and traffic signal-related projects.
- Specialist traffic signal services: Providing specialist traffic signal services such as assessing and optimising the operation of existing traffic signalised junctions.
- Business and team development: Helping to grow Arcadis’ traffic signals team in the UK and Ireland and contributing to the company’s Growth Plans.
In terms of project delivery, key accountabilities include:
- Preparing design solutions at various stages of a project in line with client and Arcadis specifications as well as relevant national standards and codes of practice; preparing drawings, reports, specifications and estimates; document management, attendance at meetings and checking the work of other team members to ensure accuracy.
- Project management duties will include coordination of inputs from different disciplines; monitoring and protecting our client relationships; planning and programming; commercial management; and presenting projects for audit.
- Maintaining on-going communication with relevant Project Leaders/Senior Managers, and clients when required, to ensure effective communications on matters relevant to the project.
- Contributing to the resolution of technical issues on projects and providing technical guidance to other team members, such as technicians, junior engineers and apprentices.
- Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design.
- Being familiar and compliant with all relevant health and safety regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team.
In terms of providing specialist traffic signal services to major clients, key accountabilities include:
- Providing the Traffic Signals Specialist role as part of Arcadis’ role in the Traffic Scotland Operations and Infrastructure Services Contract – Lot 1 Operations contract. This involves spending a minimum of two days per week at the Traffic Scotland Operations Centre at the Queensferry Crossing or attending site at traffic signal junctions on Transport Scotland’s strategic road network.
- Assessing and optimising the operation of existing traffic signalised junctions as well as preparing business and technical cases for introducing new traffic signal junctions for major clients in the UK and Ireland.
In terms of helping to grow Arcadis’ traffic signals team in the UK and Ireland, key accountabilities include:
- Promoting and developing the technical capability of other team members.
- Support senior managers with recruitment required to grow the team in the UK and Ireland.
- Support senior managers with business development through contribution to and management of bids.
- Gaining awareness of, and familiarity with, the commercial aspects of projects to develop commercial skills.
- Building a profile in the industry and keeping up-to-date with innovations and developments.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your line managers, project managers or by the Arcadis business.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in delivering traffic signal projects including layout of traffic signal controlled junctions and timings of traffic signals.
- Experience in assessing and optimising the operation of existing traffic signalised junctions.
- Experience of working with design standards and guidance including relevant parts of the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works, and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, TR2500 Specification for Traffic Signal Controllers, etc.
- Knowledge of traffic signal models and use of their output in assessing existing traffic signal junctions as well as developing new traffic signal junction designs.
- Knowledge of CAD (or similar) and capability to prepare traffic signal installation drawings as well as overseeing the work of CAD Technicians.
- Good skills with MS packages including Excel and Word.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in a client facing position.
- A strong team-working ethic is essential.
