Our organisation offers a diverse range of services, programmes and initiatives in order to support our local communities to belong, contribute and thrive.
We would welcome talented volunteers to share their skills with our residents by designing, planning and promoting a range of activities. These may include but are not limited to:
- Basic IT sessions
- Themed nights including arts & crafts
- Sewing/textiles/clothes making
- Pamper sessions/haircuts/manicures
- Outings – to the beach, zoo or local parks and forests
- Supporting with current or planning future events at the hostel or in the community
We also welcome those who are undertaking any local college courses e.g. haircuts, health and beauty, and would like to put their skills into practice.
You will need:
- Be a good listener with the ability to show empathy
- Good knowledge and practical skillset in activity that is to be delivered
- Passionate about working with people from diverse backgrounds
- Willing to work with challenging people and situations
- Good communication skills in English; in person & over the phone
- Reliable, punctual, organised and able to maintain confidentiality
- A willingness to learn new things and get stuck in
- Ability to work as part of a team and attend team meetings
- Working knowledge of local support agencies and IT packages
- Previous experience of providing support in similar capacity would be ideal
- Respect the Christian ethos of the YMCA and uphold its values
What we will provide:
- A full induction to the service and specific site will be provided
- Ongoing support and regular 1:1 meetings with your line-manager
- Team meetings and social events
Please note: You will be required to undergo a DBS check. Two references may be undertaken prior to start.
