The post-holder will work without direct supervision and may be required to take charge of the Critical Care Unit for a span of duty in the absence of the Unit Manager or Matron.
Key Responsibilities:
- Development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care.
- Effective leadership and staff management/development.
- Always work within the NMC’s Code of Professional Conduct.
- Lead, provide, and supervise a very high standard of compassionate care to patients.
- Accountable for staffing issues and managing a large team.
- Support the safety and quality agenda of patient care and staff management.
- Ensure that the values and objectives of the Trust are met, whilst improving patient outcomes.
- Support the journey of the patient from admission to discharge.
- Identify risk and formulate actions to reduce this risk.
- Ensure patient throughput is effective.
- Support the Matron, Consultants, and the Multi Disciplinary Team and deputise for seniors in their absence.
- Manage staff sickness, appraisal, education, and clinical needs.
- Responsible for the safe custody, checking, and administration of drugs, including inotropes.
- Exercise effective leadership acting as an exemplary role model for the unit team.
- Ensure effective communication with patients, their carers, and the MDT.
- Ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures.
- Monitor performance and educational needs of self and others through the appraisal system.
- Collaborate with clinical practice facilitators to develop an effective clinical learning environment.
- Act as a mentor for all pre and post-registration nurses.
- Uphold the reputation of the Trust and safeguard the wellbeing and dignity of patients and their relatives.
