Ormiston Meridian Academy are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant, to work as part of the Learning Support Team/ SEND department in supporting students with learning difficulties, disabilities and other barriers to their learning in mainstream classes. The working hours for the post will be Monday to Friday 8.45am to 3.15pm, 28 hours per week, term time only including INSET days.

Your role will be to assist identified learners achieve success in their studies. This could include those students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) issues, students with an EHCP and students requiring additional support in lessons.

Key Duties
  • To establish supportive relationships with students.
  • To support SEND students on a 1:1 basis outside of the classroom.
  • Working with SEND students in classes.
  • Working with SEND students in small groups.
  • Working with other groups of students to support learning.
  • Plan and deliver interventions.
  • Liaise between subject staff, students and SENCO.
  • Working with other professionals/outside agencies acting on advice given.
  • Work closely with parents/ carers to provide regular updates on progress and targets for SEND students.
  • To support SEND students holistically, e.g. improve attendance, reduce FTEs for SEND students.
  • To contribute to the delivery and adaption of the curriculum for SEND students.
  • To be willing to contribute to the broader life of the Academy community.
  • To positively promote inclusion and have high expectations for all students.
  • To attend meetings and in-service training days where necessary and appropriate.
  • To follow Academy procedures and policies.
Key Requirements
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above or hold certificates in Literacy and Numeracy Professional Skills.
  • Functional Skills Level 3.
  • Must hold or be willing to work towards Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification.

  • Have an awareness of strategies to support students with various SEND needs.
  • To work constructively as part of a team whilst being able to demonstrate initiative and flexibility.
  • Be a positive role model in the Academy community.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to be able to relate well to a wide range of people including professionals and parents/ carers.
  • Possess the ability to positively manage behaviour.
  • The ability to focus learners on tasks in a positive manner.
