Job overview: The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the Primary Care and Community Services sub-directorate to ensure effective, efficient and equitable delivery of the Business Unit corporate/programme functions. The role supports the business in driving transformation as well as value for money in planning, commissioning and service. The role is designed to build a combination of subject matter expertise and technical skills to develop a strong service delivery. The new NHS England will work at pace when appropriate and be agile. To support this, all roles across the new Primary Care and Community Services sub-directorate may need to work flexibly across different teams and projects to adapt to emerging priorities and support system working including greater joined up working between primary and community services.

Main duties of the job: The successful candidate will:

  • Oversee the day-to-day business operations of the Group Director’s office, ensuring the smooth coordination of administrative tasks including expenses.
  • Provide comprehensive support to the Group Directors, overseeing their diary, travel, handling correspondence and ensuring the timely delivery of key priorities.
  • Support timely clearance of key documents and submissions internally and externally.
  • Act as a key point of communication for the Group Director’s Office, working with Directors, drafting correspondence and reports, and supporting the development of both internal and external communications for the ESM2 office.
  • Handle and present complex, sensitive, and highly confidential information. Ensure data integrity and confidentiality while communicating findings clearly and concisely.
  • Develop and implement project plans, identify risks and issues, and maintain robust governance for the overall management of PCCS and specific projects. This involves tracking progress, reporting on milestones, and ensuring projects are aligned with corporate goals.

Person specification:

Qualifications: Educated to master’s level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
Knowledge and Experience: Have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement. Have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health and individual provider and commissioning organisations. Experience of identifying and interpreting national policy.
Skills, Capabilities & Attributes: Must be able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups. Ability to make decisions autonomously, when required, on difficult and contentious issues where there may be a number of courses of action, working to tight and often changing timescales. Must be able to prioritise own work effectively and be able to direct activities of others.
