Role Overview

As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating and making lending decisions on bridging applications. You will assess risk, review security, and ensure compliance with internal policies while maintaining speed and efficiency in the decision-making process. You will work closely with brokers, solicitors, surveyors, and the internal team to facilitate seamless loan completion and help drive Expert Lending’s growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite bridging loan applications, ensuring they meet lending criteria and risk appetite.
  • Analyse borrower financials, property valuations, security, and exit strategies to ensure sound lending decisions.
  • Conduct due diligence, including credit reports, financial assessments, background checks, and legal documentation reviews.
  • Stay up to date with any legislation changes within the bridging finance sector.
  • Effectively manage expectations of brokers, intermediaries, and borrowers, ensuring high service levels.
  • Support senior management in improving underwriting processes.
  • Write and improve on internal policies.
  • Mentor and support junior underwriters and case managers when the teams are established.

Key Requirements

  • At least 3 years’ experience underwriting bridging finance.
  • Strong understanding of property-backed lending, risk assessment, and credit analysis.
  • Working knowledge of UK bridging lending procedures and risk management principles.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to assess complex cases efficiently.
  • Strong communication and management skills, with experience dealing with brokers and clients.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritising workloads to meet tight deadlines.
