Job Purpose To coordinate and deliver high-quality, personalised education for secondary-aged students with SEMH needs who are currently unable to access mainstream school. The role involves managing a small tutor team, developing tailored learning programmes, and working collaboratively with external professionals and families to support holistic student development. Key Responsibilities Teaching & Learning * Plan and deliver individualised lessons across core and foundation subjects (e.g. English, Maths, ICT, Science, History, Geography, PSHE) to small groups (1–4 students) * Adapt teaching to suit the complex emotional, social, and academic needs of each learner. * Assess, monitor, and report on student progress and well-being. * Use creative, inclusive strategies to raise engagement and attainment. Team Management * Supervise and support a small team of tutors delivering elements of the programme. * Model best practices in teaching and support a purposeful working environment. * Monitor the performance and well-being of the tutor team. Curriculum & Assessment * Design and implement bespoke education programmes aligned with student EHCPs and individual targets. * Collaborate with subject leads and SLT to ensure high standards across curriculum areas. * Evaluate and refine programmes regularly to ensure impact and progress. Holistic Support & Safeguarding * Liaise with external professionals (e.g., social workers, YJS, CAMHS, family support services) to address broader student needs. * Foster strong relationships with families and carers, encouraging engagement in education. * Promote safeguarding, child protection, and Prevent Duty compliance at all times. * Attend multi-agency meetings and contribute to written reports and action plans as required. Leadership & Ethos * Contribute to the development of school policies and whole-school initiatives. * Support the ethos, values, and strategic direction of the provision. * Take part in performance management and professional development. Person Specification Essential * Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) * Experience teaching students with SEMH or in alternative provision/PRU settings * Proven ability to engage disaffected learners and manage challenging behaviour * Strong interpersonal and communication skills with stakeholders at all levels * Commitment to inclusive practice and safeguarding Desirable * Experience supervising or mentoring staff * Background in multi-agency working * Familiarity with trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches
