Role Summary
This role is accountable for managing freight chartering for business associated with Atlantic trade for our Capesize portfolio. You are required to ensure Capesize freight coverage is adequate and fully performed in line with agreed policies and procedures.
The principal function of the Commercial Operations group is to build a competitive, flexible freight portfolio. You will need to have a strong understanding of the global market and your specific area.
Your success depends upon role modeling best practice chartering. You enjoy using your relationship-building skills to network with principal clients and suppliers – sourcing the best deals. Freight trading, analysis, and managing a mixed portfolio of risk are key skills and knowledge areas for you.
You should have experience working in a commercial shore-based role, with a proven track record in the shipping industry, and strong experience in cargo operations documentation procedures.
Responsibilities
- Develop tailored business plans to achieve business goals
- Identify business growth opportunities
- Develop alternative solutions and formulate commercial and contractual proposals
- Compile and provide relevant information and monthly reports for decision making
- Handle confidential files/reports and coordinate work allocation
- Develop and negotiate period tonnage
- Analyze vessel employment strategies to maximize earnings and meet business targets through optimal vessel utilization, positioning, routing, and portfolio mix
- Forecast and analyze market conditions to optimize trading opportunities
- Market vessels to charterers and brokers
- Negotiate spot freight rates and conclude cargo fixtures for maximum utilization and earnings
- Negotiate Contracts of Affreightment
- Ensure compliance with charter party terms and conditions
- Undertake commercial risk analysis
- Explore new business opportunities and conduct feasibility studies
- Maintain existing client relationships and develop new ones
