Job Responsibilities

  1. Be responsible for a caseload of children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), overseeing the child\’s journey from statutory assessment to placement and finalisation of their EHCP, using key working principles with families.
  2. Ensure effective communication with parents and external agencies regarding policies, services, and processes related to SEND issues, fostering an accessible and welcoming environment.
  3. Act as the named officer for a group of schools, while being flexible to work as part of a team, providing services and support to parents, carers, and colleagues.
  4. Foster and maintain close and effective working relationships with all partner agencies.
  5. Draft and produce high-quality EHC Plans and host co-production meetings.
  6. Attend annual reviews and transition reviews as required by the procedure.

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Good general education standard (GCSE or equivalent passes in English and Maths, and 5 GCSEs or equivalent overall grades A* – C).
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (Children and Families Act 2014, 0-25 SEND Code of Practice).
  • Understanding of applying principles of equal opportunities to address equality and diversity issues.

Experience

  • Experience establishing effective working relationships with parents, young people, and professionals, including key working principles.
  • Knowledge of current issues in education for children and adults with complex needs, including safeguarding.
  • Experience working in a multi-agency setting.

Aptitudes, Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Ability to chair professional and parent meetings.
  • Excellent ICT skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, capable of managing competing demands and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, under pressure, with a full commitment to service delivery and development in SEND, being open to feedback to improve practice.
