Associate Bridge Engineer

Job Title: Chartered Engineer – Principal/Associate Bridge Engineer

A Design & Build Specialist Bridge team is seeking a Chartered Engineer to assume the role of Principal Engineer or Associate at their Leeds (Otley) office. You will lead on some of the most technical Design & Build projects.

Recent projects include multi-span bridge structures, moveable bridges (for which they are renowned specialists), large concrete culverts, and bridges. Notable projects include Herring Bridge, a twin leaf bascule bridge; the Renfrew Bridge, a metre double cable-stayed swing bridge; and the Royal Canal Phase 2 Viaduct in Dublin.

You will join a busy office of 25 engineers with expertise in Highways Civils and Bridge engineering. The work is primarily office-based, with collaborative scheme development. As a Chartered Engineer, you will lead your team in delivering major projects, with responsibilities varying slightly between Principal and Associate roles but remaining highly technical.

Responsibilities

1. Work on existing and new bridges and civil structures across various materials and forms, including superstructure, substructure, and articulation elements.
2. Engage in early project stages: scoping, specifying, interpreting surveys, inspections, investigative works, optioneering, and scheme design.
3. Conduct detailed design: modeling, calculations, and overseeing drawing production.
4. Prepare technical documents, including reports, specifications, and contract documents.
5. Review work of others: category 3 checking, acting as client and site representatives.
6. Interface with clients, authorities, consultants, and D&B contractors.
7. Support graduate engineers in their path toward chartership.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 7 years of professional experience as a senior engineer or principal engineer.
• Chartered status with ICE or equivalent.
• Experience with Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and relevant standards and legislation.
