We are currently looking to recruit a lawyer specialising in public procurement and State aid/subsidy control law to join our Competition, EU and Trade (“CEUT”) group, based in one of our regional offices. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years PQE. Candidates should be familiar with, and ready to advise on, the Public Contracts Regulations 2015, the Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2015, and the Procurement Act 2023. Ideally, candidates would have some knowledge of UK subsidy control and EU State aid, and must be eager to develop their expertise in these areas.

Candidates must be willing to work in procurement law, UK subsidy control, EU State aid, and trade law. We seek a candidate with excellent research skills, the ability to take a risk-based approach in the 'grey areas' of procurement law, and a strong commercial awareness. An enthusiasm for internal and external business development and an interest in innovation are essential. The candidate should be a team player with a client-focused approach, possess a strong academic background, and have excellent communication and organizational skills.

The subsidy control/state aid, procurement, and trade team is led by Dr. Totis Kotsonis. The team services both private and public sector clients across the spectrum of these issues. It is part of the larger CEUT group, comprising 10 partners, 3 legal directors, and over 20 lawyers across the UK, Germany, Ireland, South Africa, and Hong Kong. The group is highly regarded, sizable, and experienced in competition law. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with colleagues across the CEUT group. This is an exciting time to join Pinsent Masons, given our growth in the UK and internationally, including across Europe. It offers an opportunity to contribute to the expansion of the CEUT group within the UK and Europe.

Recent Projects Include:

  • Advising the Ministry of Justice on procurement for high-profile prison and probation services projects.
  • Assisting an international rail industry client with a High Court procurement dispute.
  • Supporting high-profile nuclear projects.
  • Representing Wincanton Holdings Limited in a procurement challenge regarding a $4.4bn logistics contract.
