Bring Your Financial Leadership to Where It Really Matters

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) is on a transformational journey—and we’re looking for a dynamic finance leader from outside the NHS to join us as a Non-Executive Director on our Board. Whether you’re from industry, the wider public sector, the NHS, or a professional services background, your strategic insight and financial acumen can play a pivotal role in improving lives and creating a sustainable future for mental health services across one of the UK’s most diverse and vibrant regions.

As Chair of our Finance and Performance Committee, you’ll be a driving force behind our strategic recovery and operational performance. This is more than a governance role—it’s an opportunity to use your experience to influence long-term impact.

Why Now? Why GMMH?

GMMH has come a long way over the past 18 months. With new leadership in place, we’ve stabilised our governance, revitalised our culture, and regained confidence across our partner networks. We’re moving forward—fast—and your voice at our Board table will help us build on this momentum.

We’re open-minded and outward-looking. Our Board already benefits from a rich mix of perspectives, including professionals from voluntary, tech, and government sectors. Now, we’re keen to welcome someone who can bring robust financial stewardship, constructive challenge, and fresh thinking—no NHS experience needed.

What You’ll Bring

  • Has held a senior finance, audit, or commercial leadership role in a complex, regulated environment.
  • Understands how to interpret performance data and challenge constructively.
  • Can chair a high-level committee with confidence and clarity.
  • Believes in public service, even if they haven’t worked in it before.

You might be a CFO, Finance Director, Audit Partner, or Transformation Consultant. Whether you’re still working or recently stepped back from executive life, if you have time, energy and a desire to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

  • Chair our Finance and Performance Committee—overseeing strategic finance, transformation, and operational outcomes.
  • Support and challenge the Executive Directors as part of a unitary Board.
  • Represent the voice of service users and communities in financial and strategic decisions.
  • Contribute to building an inclusive, high-performing, and accountable culture.
