VP of Engineering – High-growth Consumer & Data Tech
Salary: £130-160k + equity
Location: central London, 2 days in office
A fast-scaling tech company is looking for a VP of Engineering to help grow a small, high-impact engineering team building consumer apps, web products and data platforms used across the UK & US. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who loves scaling teams but still enjoys staying close to the tech.
You’ll work directly with the CTO to shape engineering strategy, build the team and level up ways of working as the company scales rapidly. Expect a mix of leadership, delivery oversight and technical involvement.
With multiple new international launches planned, this is a chance to influence architecture, culture and execution from an early stage.
Key responsibilites:
- Mentor and develop engineers, especially senior talent
- Drive improvements in reliability, scalability, observability and delivery performance
- Refresh engineering processes, identify gaps and lead improvement initiatives
- Shape org structure, hiring plans and career frameworks as the team grows
- Guide product & engineering roadmap decisions, ensuring strong execution
- Balance innovation, technical debt and delivery velocity
- Stay close to architecture decisions and dive into the detail when needed
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, marketing and commercial teams
Key requirements:
- 7+ years engineering experience (web or native mobile)
- 3+ years leadership with line-management responsibility
- Experience growing teams in a startup or scale-up environment
- Strong technical depth and willingness to stay hands-on when needed
- Track record of delivering impactful products at pace
- Strong coaching, hiring and team-building capability
- Excellent communication skills and UK work eligibility
