We’re the UK branch of ABMI, a French engineering consulting group with over 35 years of experience delivering high-level expertise in critical industries like nuclear energy, aerospace, and transportation. ABMI is known for its deep technical knowledge and ability to adapt its skills to new sectors. Our strength lies in choosing focus over breadth. In the UK, we’re applying our nuclear expertise to projects with EDF, a long-standing client we’ve supported for years in France.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the specification, technical coordination, and integration of mechanical systems and components within a highly regulated nuclear environment. Your role will ensure that all equipment complies with safety, quality, and performance standards, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across design, procurement, and construction phases—particularly on large-scale projects such as SZC or HPC.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all activities throughout the tendering phases, including clarification meetings, bid assessments, and contract surveillance.
  • Organise and lead regular technical and progress meetings with contractors.
  • Provide internal reporting to the RD and client, ensuring clear communication on progress, risks, issues, and timelines to support effective contract delivery.
  • Manage and track design-related risks; lead the preparation and evaluation of early warnings and variation requests.
  • Oversee interfaces between the contractor, client, and all internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful contract delivery aligned with the engineering schedule and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate configuration management activities, including the preparation of Contract Transfer Sheets, Design Modifications, and Referential Evolution Requests.
  • Organise, coordinate, and monitor surveillance activities, including drafting the Surveillance Programme Organisation Note and the Annual Surveillance Report.
  • Plan for and contribute to the resolution of technical issues and queries as they arise.

Essential:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in an Engineering or Scientific Discipline.
  • Contract management and documentary surveillance.
  • Understanding of Equipment interfaces (pipework, supports, fluids, safety case, systems engineering).
  • Knowledge and experience in Nuclear Mechanical Equipment Design, manufacturing, and Operations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant Health and Safety regulations.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with the SZC or HPC project.
  • Experience in the nuclear sector.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with equipment contracts in the nuclear sector or other heavily regulated industries (such as oil & gas, rail, etc.).
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering design sequences.
  • Project management qualification and/or experience.
