Since our formation in the year 2000, Alba Ultrasound has built an exceptional international reputation at the forefront of the underwater sonar industry, based on a proven track record of innovative design. From our modern facility in Glasgow, we design and manufacture bespoke ultrasonic array transducers for both commercial and defence markets. Recently we have seen significant growth in the area of underwater mine detection and classification sonars, as the world adapts to this global emerging threat. As a result of this, allied with increased activity in the underwater sector in general, our order book is full and growing.
For these reasons, we are seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer to work within a small multidisciplinary design group. This group collaborates closely with our clients, requiring creative mechanical design solutions. Your key area of responsibility is the creation of accurate Solidworks 3-D CAD designs, to meet the requirements of the customer. However, you will be responsible for the mechanical aspects of the full product lifecycle, from initial concept through to manufacture and validation.
Above all we are seeking someone with imagination, innovation, problem-solving and creativity. However, it is also critical that you are comfortable and proficient in hands-on prototype assembly, have a high level of attention to detail.
Salary: Competitive, Depending on Experience
Key responsibilities:
- Generate conceptual CAD models to meet customer requirements
- Liaise and collaborate with customer engineering and design teams
- Create detailed manufacturing drawings and instructions
- Provide hands-on engineering support to production technicians for complex products and processes
- Provide bespoke designs for fixtures to support manufacturing requirements
Full product life-cycle responsibility
Experience:
- Educated to Degree level in a mechanical engineering discipline
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in an engineering role requiring Solidworks CAD skills
- Strong mechanical design background
- Hands-on mechanical engineering and assembly background
- Design of fixtures for accurate machining and assembly processes
- Ability to learn and understand new engineering techniques
- Track record of creative design solutions
- Proactive and self-motivated with a desire to learn new technology
