Our client is a leading national planning and development consultancy with an outstanding reputation for delivering high-profile and complex planning projects. With a strong focus on strategic land and development, the firm has an established track record of working on a range of major projects, from large greenfield residential developments to cutting-edge science parks, industrial estates, and data centre facilities. As part of their expansion, they are now seeking experienced and ambitious Town Planners to join their growing Strategic Planning teams across the UK. Role Overview : This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Associate Director or Planning Director to take on a managerial role within a highly regarded consultancy. You will be instrumental in leading and developing the strategic planning team, overseeing a range of major development schemes, and working closely with clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders. Key Responsibilities : Lead and manage a team of planners working on strategic land and development projects across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Oversee the preparation and submission of planning applications, appeals, and development plans. Provide strategic advice to clients on large-scale development projects, ensuring compliance with planning policy and regulations. Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and local authorities. Actively contribute to business development and the growth of the consultancy, identifying new opportunities and managing client relationships. Manage and mentor junior and mid-level planners, providing guidance and support for their professional development. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. Required Skills and Experience : A relevant planning degree (RTPI accredited) and membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). At least 5+ years of experience in a planning consultancy or similar environment, with a focus on strategic land and development projects. Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrable experience in leading and managing teams, with a strategic and commercial mindset. Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients, stakeholders, and local authorities. Experience in business development, including identifying new opportunities and leading proposals. A comprehensive understanding of UK planning law, policies, and procedures. Desirable Skills : Experience working on large-scale, high-profile development schemes, particularly in the residential, science, and industrial sectors. A strong network within the planning sector and development industry. Experience of working in or knowledge of the regional markets for Manchester, Glasgow, London, or Birmingham.
