A well-established building services provider with over four decades of experience is seeking to expand its team. The organization delivers comprehensive mechanical and electrical services across a broad range of sectors including industrial, logistics, healthcare, data centres, food production, commercial, and residential developments. With a proven track record of delivering large-scale projects across various regions in Europe, the company is known for providing end-to-end solutions from design through to installation and ongoing maintenance.
Due to ongoing expansion, the company is looking to hire an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer based in the West Midlands region. This position is primarily office-based and involves developing and delivering mechanical designs to ensure safe and compliant installations.
Key Responsibilities- Interpret fire strategy reports and ensure designs comply with regional regulations and planning authority requirements
- Attend design coordination meetings
- Conduct site surveys of existing mechanical installations
- Perform thermal modelling and load calculations for heating and ventilation systems
- Select and size mechanical equipment including AHUs, FCUs, fans, pumps, chillers, boilers, and heat exchangers
- Produce calculations and specifications for above-ground drainage and domestic water systems
- Conduct pipe and duct sizing using industry-standard tools or internal spreadsheets
- (Preferred) Design firefighting sprinkler and pumping systems
- Prepare design reports, presentations, and Designer Risk Assessments
- Create detailed mechanical layouts and schematics for construction
- Meet project deadlines and deliver comprehensive design and survey documentation
- Significant experience in mechanical design within the building services industry
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification
- Familiarity with relevant building codes and standards (e.g., CIBSE, BS, IEC, EN, or ASHRAE)
- Proficiency with design software such as Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, CyMap, or IES/TAS
- Strong communication skills and ability to operate effectively in a dynamic work environment
