Assistant project advisor role to support the project team at HMP Channing’s Wood to deliver the agreed outcomes of managing the project on behalf of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) within time, cost and quality requirements. Coordinating with all relevant parties to understand and deliver project objectives set out in the project plans. The role is predominantly site based in South Devon with flexible working available.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Working with the project team to assist in the delivery of the project objectives in line with the project plan.
- Monitoring and actively engaging in relevant health, safety and wellbeing standards aspects of the project at all stages.
- Assisting in the preparation and modifications of the project plans and keeps them updated and relevant over the course of the project/s.
- Collaborating with relevant parties/stakeholders and ensures robust quality systems are suitably managed and monitored in line with service excellence.
- Attending and recording relevant meetings, providing relevant parties with contextual information and analysis, including regular site walks.
- Partnering with relevant stakeholders and is actively involved in risk management and mitigation treatments.
- Assisting in tracking project changes and ensuring they are processed and formalised within the agreed timeframes.
- Assisting in providing handover documentation prior to practical completion.
Understanding the businesses priorities through construction to production, digital & data and responsible business. Supporting the project and programme management team activities relating to external / third-party client appointments. Conducting research, analysis, record-keeping and other supporting activities to ensure timely and accurate information to contribute to delivery of project management operation. Identifying solutions to issues that are generally defined (but not always immediately evident) and require problem-solving. Working collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.
You’ll need to have:
- Project management experience, another professional service and/or fundamental knowledge of construction and industries and understanding of programme, scheduling, procurement and reporting.
- Problem solving and analytical skills for resolving project office issues.
- Interpersonal skills to prepare reports and build relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
- Broad knowledge and perspectives to extract elements into a coherent strategic view.
- Outline knowledge and appreciation in specific sector/market of project/role.
- Relevant technical qualification/certification for project portfolio/s.
- Appreciation of health and safety executive (HSE) rules and specific sector/market regulations relevant to project portfolio.
- Outline knowledge of consultancy, construction, infrastructure and property sectors/markets.
- Appreciation of estimating, scheduling, contracts administration, procurement, commercial controls and reporting.
- Seeks opportunities for learning and implementing improved working practices and service differentiation.
- Develops working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Uses communication skills to collaborate with others to guide others to achieve project key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Good interpersonal skills to prepare reports, negotiate and build relationships with key stakeholders.

You’ll also have:
- MCIOB/MAPM/MRICS (or working towards) or (local equivalent)
- Tertiary qualifications in related (project management and/or construction related discipline), non-related degree or equivalent professional experience/apprenticeship, combined with a demonstrable intermediate level of role knowledge.
- Appropriate Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
