We have an exciting opportunity to join our team in Spalding as a Facilities Farm Manager. We are looking for a proactive and practical Facilities Farm Manager to take charge of the upkeep, safety, and efficiency of our farm’s facilities and equipment. This key role will involve managing day-to-day site maintenance, coordinating essential repairs, responding to breakdowns, and overseeing contractors. You will ensure the operational reliability of both our production site and wider farm infrastructure—supporting our core mission of innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence.
Core Responsibilities- Ensures all farm buildings, roads, glasshouses, and operational areas are well-maintained, functional, and safe.
- Takes a proactive approach to identifying and resolving infrastructure-related issues.
- Maintains operational readiness of key machinery including telehandlers, forklifts, conveyors, and automated systems.
- Minimises downtime through fast, effective response to breakdowns and regular preventative maintenance.
- Upholds high standards of health and safety, ensuring all site and contractor work complies with relevant regulations.
- Conducts inspections and risk assessments, promoting a culture of safety awareness and accountability.
- Effectively plans and manages external contractor work, ensuring high quality, compliance, and minimal disruption.
- Supports project work including site upgrades, installations, and sustainability initiatives.
- Maintains open communication with operations and management teams to support seamless daily activities.
- Clearly documents work activity, maintenance logs, and contractor performance for transparency and traceability.
- Lead maintenance and repairs of farm buildings, glasshouses, roads, and hard standing areas.
- Manage utilities and key services, including water supply, lighting, heating, and ventilation systems.
- Monitor site condition and proactively address any issues with drainage, pest control, or weather-related wear.
- Carry out inspections and maintain high housekeeping standards across all areas of the site.
- Oversee the maintenance of essential machinery including telehandlers, forklifts, conveyors, and grading lines.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns quickly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to farm operations.
- Support automated and manual systems used in planting, harvesting, and packing activities.
- Ensure a consistent supply of spare parts and perform routine servicing tasks where appropriate.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors conducting specialist repairs, maintenance, or installations.
- Ensure all contractor activities comply with health and safety regulations and site policies.
- Maintain clear records of work carried out, including service reports, inspections, and follow-ups.
- Conduct or support health and safety assessments related to engineering and facilities activities.
- Collaborate with other departments to support smooth daily farm operations.
- Contribute to projects aimed at improving site efficiency or reducing environmental impact.
- Advise on and support sustainability efforts, including renewable energy systems and energy-saving practices.
- Assist with infrastructure planning for future expansion or operational changes.
- Proven experience in facilities or maintenance roles within an agricultural or industrial setting.
- Strong practical understanding of machinery operation, servicing, and basic mechanical repair.
- Valid telehandler and/or forklift license.
- Experience coordinating contractor work and ensuring safety and compliance on-site.
- Ability to work independently, manage a varied workload, and respond to technical challenges effectively.
- Formal mechanical or engineering qualification.
- Familiarity with glasshouse operations or horticultural environments.
- Understanding of sustainability practices or renewable energy systems in a farming context.
- Working knowledge of risk assessment and H&S compliance procedures.
