We are seeking an experienced Design Management Engineer to lead and coordinate the technical design process throughout pre-construction and delivery, with an emphasis on quality assurance of approved designs during site execution. You will ensure that designs are complete, buildable, compliant, and correctly implemented in the field. You will act as a critical bridge between engineering and site teams, leveraging Procore for full lifecycle design control.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design coordination for EPC projects (BESS, solar, wind) from late development through construction and commissioning.
- Manage design programme and approval cycles, ensuring that all designs are timely, compliant, and build-ready.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables (civil, electrical, structural) and ensure compatibility across all packages.
- Use Procore to manage all design workflows—submittals, RFIs, transmittals, drawing logs, and version control.
- Participate in construction handover reviews of approved designs, ensuring readiness for site execution.
- Monitor site execution of approved designs—supporting construction and QA/QC teams to validate compliance and resolve design-related issues.
- Attend site inspections and audits to verify that construction follows design intent and approved specifications.
- Provide technical support for non-conformances, redlines/as-builts, and field modifications, ensuring accurate feedback into the design process.
- Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure their designs integrate with project requirements and site conditions.
- Ensure compliance with DNO/grid code requirements, CDM regulations, and all relevant standards.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years' experience in design or design management within EPC, renewable energy, or HV infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience managing design-to-construction interface, including field verification and QA of design execution.
- Strong understanding of HV systems (substations, switchgear, cabling, BOP), civil infrastructure, and energy storage technologies.
- Proficient in using Procore for design documentation, coordination, and on-site design assurance workflows.
- Familiarity with UK DNO and grid connection standards (e.g., G99), CDM regulations, and construction delivery practices.
- Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder coordination skills.
Desirable
- Chartered or working toward professional registration (e.g., CEng, IET/ICE).
- Experience with OEMs, ICPs, or T&D utilities in grid-connected energy infrastructure projects.
- Exposure to commissioning and energisation phases of HV systems.
What the Client Offers
- A role in delivering pioneering clean energy projects that shape the future grid.
- A dynamic team environment with clear opportunities for growth and technical leadership.
- Competitive salary, bonus scheme, and flexible working arrangements.
- Travel opportunities to project sites across the UK and Europe.
The client is an up and coming contractor so this is a great opportunity to help build the client from the ground up.
