About the Acoustics Group

The Acoustics Group operates as a “startup within a business” — offering traditional building acoustics consultancy with a hands-on, fast-paced, and high-standards approach. The team is small but growing, with ambitious plans to expand by 30% this year, working with clients on complex commercial fitouts and niche consultancy projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing end-to-end consultancy on building acoustics and environmental noise projects, typically in the commercial fitout space
  • Liaising directly with clients, contractors, architects, and design teams — often attending site meetings and giving live advice
  • Performing acoustic testing and analysis (often outside typical office hours — evenings, weekends, etc. — to meet site constraints)
  • Writing high-quality technical reports with clear, evidence-based recommendations
  • Representing the business at events, client presentations, and exhibitions
  • Supporting business development by maintaining and deepening client relationships and helping the group grow

Who We’re Looking For

This isn’t a “plug in numbers and go home” consultancy role. It suits someone who:

  • Is hands-on, comfortable doing site work and “mucking in” — regardless of seniority
  • Thrives in a startup culture: fast-paced, resourceful, and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Is commercially aware: understands the importance of client service and deadlines
  • Wants to develop quickly and push their technical understanding — peer-review standards are extremely high
  • Is a clear communicator who can explain acoustic concepts to non-specialists
  • Has a full UK driving licence and is willing to transport heavy kit (car allowance is provided)

Ideal Experience

We’re flexible on level — we’ll consider strong juniors or mid-career hires — but you must:

  • Have a degree in Acoustics, Physics, Engineering, or a related STEM field. IOA Diploma or Applied Acoustics preferred
  • Have at least 4–8 years of practical experience in consultancy, construction acoustics, or environmental noise
  • Be familiar with British Standards like BS 8233, BS 4142, and ISO 12255
  • Be confident working independently on-site and producing reports with minimal supervision

Nice to Have (but not essential)

  • Previous experience at a specialist acoustics consultancy
  • Experience working on Stage 3–5 of the building design process
  • Exposure to vibration monitoring, oralisation, and planning-related noise assessments

Package & Benefits

  • Salary depending on experience (typically ÂŁ40,000 – ÂŁ50,000)
  • Car allowance (ÂŁ5,000–£6,000), plus London weighting if applicable (ÂŁ5,000)
  • Employee ownership model – annual share-based bonus (around ÂŁ2,000 in recent years)
  • Generous pension and professional development support
  • Flexible working where possible, but must be comfortable with regular travel and anti-social hours

Why Join?

  • Be part of a growing team with ambitious plans and a strong client base
  • Work on diverse projects — from cutting-edge fitouts to international hotel builds and sonar tank design
  • Learn from experienced consultants — the training and peer feedback process is rigorous and transformative
  • Opportunity to shape the future of a fast-growing group within a long-established, reputable firm
