We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Executive / Accounts Assistant to support our UK-based accountants in delivering high-quality accounting services to a growing portfolio of clients. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in UK accounting practices and cloud accounting tools, especially FreeAgent.
You will be involved in a range of essential accounting functions including year-end accounts preparation, corporation tax returns, VAT filings, self-assessments, and general client support.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the preparation of UK Limited Company year-end accounts and corporation tax returns
- Prepare and file self-assessment tax returns for individuals
- Complete quarterly VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Respond to and resolve client queries efficiently and professionally
- Collaborate with senior accountants to ensure compliance and best practices
- Maintain and update records using FreeAgent, with some use of Xero or QuickBooks as needed
- 1β3 years of experience in UK-based accounting or bookkeeping
- Proficient with FreeAgent (required); working knowledge of Xero and/or QuickBooks is a plus
- Familiarity with UK tax regulations, including corporation tax, VAT, and self-assessment
- Excellent attention to detail and time management
- Strong communication skills and a client-focused approach
- AAT qualified or part-qualified ACCA/ACA (preferred but not essential)
- Experience working in a small practice or outsourced accounting firm
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple client accounts
- Comfortable with remote working tools and digital workflows
- This is a fully remote role
- Ideally UK-based, but open to remote candidates with strong UK accounting experience
- Full-time or part-time hours considered
