The Assurance Director is a senior leadership role in the Banking Arm reporting directly to the Co-Chief Banking Officer (RM). They have overall responsibility for the assurance activity for Start Up Loans, the Covid Debt Schemes and live Guarantee schemes (currently Growth Guarantee Scheme). The role holder also leads the Business Unit Control Function (BUCF). The BUCF team is responsible for the operational risk management of the Relationship Management side of the Banking Arm, relevant RCSA and the control testing activity across the Banking Arm. The role will report to the Co-Chief Banking Officer (RM) in respect of the assurance and BUCF activities but with dotted reporting line to the Co-Chief Banking Officer (Product) The role leads a team that ensures the delivery of high quality assurance programmes, which are vital for holding our Lenders and Delivery Partners to account. This is achieved by developing a strategy that combines in house resource and where necessary external partner organisations (auditors). Balancing value for money with a risk-based approach to assurance activity is key. The outcomes of the Lender assurance programme are critical KPIs for BBBs management of its activity, including the Covid Debt Schemes; as a result, the role holder will need to report to relevant executive and board level committees as required. A key activity is to coordinate and collaborate with both the relevant Product team members and Relationship Managers to ensure outcomes and any resulting risks from assurance activity are understood and appropriate actions are taken. Relationship Managers will lead on follow up engagement with Lenders, but the role holder will support and join meetings as necessary. The role will work closely with the Guarantee Portfolio Operations team who manage the Operations Centre which processes guarantee payments and will continue to be responsible for those operations and the operational engagement with the Lenders The role requires an excellent understanding of financial services firms, assurance techniques, risk governance processes and procedures, particularly risk operations and control testing. Note these are multi-billion-pound portfolios. To be considered for this role you will be able to demonstrate strong leadership, the ability to deliver high standards of client interaction, commercial contract procurement and ongoing management and multiple and complex stakeholder management. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to develop a multi year strategy with excellent knowledge of risk operations and compliance processes ideally within a financial services environment. You will have a preference for precision and attention to detail, particularly whilst following and adhering to strict governance processes along with high quality report writing skills. It is of note that there can be intensive public, political and media scrutiny and so the candidate needs to be highly credible and with a proven track record of managing relationships across commercial, regulatory and government stakeholders A deep understanding of financial services governance and risks and controls with the ability to lead effectively, independently, and within a collaborative team-orientated environment, using sound judgement in decision making. You will be highly competent managing stakeholders at a variety of levels and providing regular status updates to ensure confidence as well as being decisive and solution orientated.
