Jacobs is looking to appoint a Traffic Survey Analyst/Field Researcher and Survey Data Collector in Stevenage. Working collaboratively with Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) and its supply chain, Jacobs provides program/asset management and technical support to the highway and environmental service to protect and maximize value from HCC's £8 billion of highway, structures and environmental assets.

About the opportunity:

As an Analyst/Enumerator you will be collecting and processing important data on the use of Hertfordshire's roads and streets network, which informs monitoring, transport planning and scheme designs. This is a zero hour contract, workload is seasonal and varies from week to week. The workload is generally busiest during school term time between February and November. Work is mainly in shifts between 7am and 7pm but occasional out of hours or weekend work is required. Processing of video surveys can be undertaken at home or in our Stevenage office. You will need a driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Some duties and responsibilities:

  • Manual traffic data collection on site including:
  • Volume, classification and directional surveys at both regular programmed sites and ad-hoc surveys
  • Pedestrian and cyclist counts
  • Parking surveys
  • Observation surveys
  • Drive through surveys
  • Providing support to the wider Transport Planning and Data Team
  • Use of manual count equipment and mobile survey applications
  • Processing video surveys from home or office
  • Occasionally assisting our Data Technicians with automatic data collection
  • Undertaking point of work risk assessments, and complying with and contributing to Jacobs Health, Safety and Wellbeing policies and procedures, including undertaking any required training, and maintenance of records
  • Job Qualifications:

    • Demonstrable communication skills and attention to detail with previous experience working with high volume data sets
    • Access to own vehicle to attend survey sites as required
    • Comfortable with working outside or from within a vehicle
    • Comfortable using mobile applications and various technologies

    Please note full training will be given. This is an ongoing opportunity to be part of Jacobs with potential to secure a permanent role in the future.
