This role will play a key role in the service senior leadership team, adding value to the service by helping to manage the customer relationship and monitoring the service's performance, ensuring it meets the expectations of the University and needs of its customers.
Accountabilities and responsibilities:
- Strategy and Planning
- Develop and implement an estates and facilities strategy that aligns with the university's long-term vision, ensuring high-quality, sustainable, and cost-effective campus operations.
- Provide strategic oversight for space management and campus planning, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and alignment with academic, research, and commercial needs.
- Monitor and report on estates and facilities performance, setting clear KPIs, using data-driven insights, and ensuring transparency in decision-making.
- Work closely with the Commercial Services team to optimise campus facilities, ensuring effective space utilisation, revenue generation, and seamless service delivery.
- Estate Development and Capital Projects
- Lead capital projects and estate development initiatives, ensuring new builds, refurbishments, and infrastructure improvements are delivered on time, within budget, and to high standards.
- Oversee the management, maintenance, and development of the university's estate, ensuring buildings, infrastructure, and grounds are safe, functional, and fit for purpose.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with contractors, suppliers, and external stakeholders to enhance service quality, secure value-for-money contracts, and drive innovation.
- Facilities Management and Operational Efficiency
- Oversee facilities services, including cleaning, security, transport, waste management, and grounds maintenance, ensuring high standards and a positive user experience.
- Drive operational efficiencies across estates and facilities management, identifying opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and sustainability initiatives.
- Oversee the university's approach to energy management and utilities, ensuring efficient usage, cost control, and alignment with sustainability goals.
- Compliance, Risk, and Business Continuity
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, embedding best practices across all estate and facilities operations.
- Manage risk and business continuity planning for estate and facilities services, ensuring robust contingency plans are in place for critical incidents and disruptions.
- Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility
- Implement and monitor sustainability initiatives, ensuring the estate operates in line with the university's environmental and carbon reduction commitments.
- Leadership and External Engagement
- Lead and develop estates and facilities teams, fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Represent the university in sector-wide estates and facilities discussions, engaging with external bodies, professional networks, and regulatory agencies to share best practices.
