Summary

Globally, EPIQ is one of the largest independent providers of in-house and outsourced legal services and technology solutions. We have established service centres in major legal markets in London, Dublin, Australia, NZ, Asia and across the United States and maintain a client list that includes global corporations, government bodies and leading law firms. EPIQ provides exceptional discovery and document review services, legal business process outsourcing, court room services and facilities management. We have achieved this success by providing our customers the highest level of quality and service. In order to continue our growth and success, we constantly look to introduce new innovative technological solutions and add high-calibre individuals to our workforce.

We are seeking a number of London-based Speech-to-Text Editors to join our Court Reporting Legal Services team as Independent Contractors. You will be required to edit, proofread and check for accuracy legal transcripts that have been produced by real time speech recognition software and you will aim to ensure that the finalised transcripts are of exceptional quality and adhere to Epiq client style requirements. The work will cover a wide variety of legal hearings such as litigations, arbitrations, disciplinary hearings, court evidence, judgments and witness statements, and you will have the opportunity to expand your skills and general knowledge. The majority of the court hearings will require onsite attendance and willingness to travel into London courts but the role can be flexible and you will also have the opportunity to offer editing services remotely from home on the days of your choice depending on your availability and the needs of the business. There also travel opportunities both within and outside the UK but this will be by prior agreement.

An excellent grasp of the English language with strong emphasis on spelling, punctuation and grammar is essential for this role as well as a proven eye for detail with the ability to effectively focus for extended periods of time whilst editing court transcripts against the audio at real time.

You will be computer literate, adept with new technology and have an aptitude for using automated speech recognition editing software and shortcuts. You will need to have a fast broadband internet connection, good quality headphones and a second monitor.

You will be provided with comprehensive training in real time speech recognition software and editing skills that will expand your knowledge and contribute to your professional development. The training will take place remotely from 9am to 5pm over a period of 4-6 weeks. You will be receiving regular constructive feedback on your performance from our highly experienced Speech-To-Text trainers to help you improve your transcription editing skills fast and achieve high standards of accuracy whilst meeting transcript delivery deadlines.

An Epiq laptop with all of the software and licences required to carry out the role will be provided to you for the training and subsequent assignments.

Upon successful completion of the training, you will be able to claim a training fee subject to agreed terms and conditions. Following the training you will be offering services as part of a team of STT Editors and work collaboratively to produce daily transcripts and meet client deadlines. There will be a competence-based progression scheme and the ability to increase your earnings as you become more familiar with the requirements of the role.

A legal background and familiarity with copy typing or audio transcription will be well regarded but is not essential. If you are a quick learner with good long-term availability, a strong interest in the legal field looking for an exciting new career opportunity as a freelancer, we look forward to hearing from you.

Shortlisted candidates will undertake the Epiq on-line English, editing and typing assessments.

Please note this is a self-employed role.
