Join a world leader in subsea robotics and engineering innovation. This is a hands-on Embedded Systems Engineer role with a global manufacturer that designs and builds high-performance ROVs, trenchers, and rescue systems from their North Yorkshire site. If you’re an engineer who enjoys end-to-end product development and seeing your designs come to life in demanding real-world environments—this is a rare opportunity to work on tech that’s pushing the limits under the ocean. Expect excellent benefits, a collaborative engineering culture, and long-term career prospects.
The successful Embedded Systems Engineer will be responsible for:
- Leading embedded design work from concept to manufacture, balancing both electronics and firmware development
- Designing control systems and developing microcontroller-based applications using C/C++
- Prototyping and hands-on testing using breadboards, soldering, and diagnostic tools
- Supporting real-time embedded applications within critical subsea environments
- Collaborating with senior engineers on R&D and product improvement initiatives
- Producing technical documentation, supporting production, and providing internal and external technical support
- Contributing to new product ideas and mentoring junior engineers where appropriate
We’re looking for an Embedded Systems Engineer who can offer:
- Strong embedded C/C++ programming skills – this is essential
- Good understanding of electronics design (analogue/digital) and microcontroller programming
- Familiarity with real-time control systems and communication protocols (e.g. RS232, RS485, I²C, SPI)
- Practical experience with prototyping (breadboarding, soldering, hands-on debugging)
- Bonus points for experience with C#, Python, Altium, or robotic control/HMI systems
- The ability to work flexibly and cross-functionally within a small engineering team
- Ideally 3+ years in an engineering design environment – but we’ll consider promising candidates with less experience too
You’ll be joining a globally recognised engineering group with a track record of delivering world-class products that perform in extreme environments. Based on-site at their Kirkbymoorside facility (with flexi-time options), you’ll enjoy:
- A 37-hour working week, with early finish Fridays
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Private healthcare
- 5% company pension contribution
- Life assurance (2x salary)
- Relocation support considered for the right candidate
