Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Salary: £45,000 – £60,000
Location: Birmingham, UK (Hybrid working available)
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a respected and forward-thinking building services consultancy. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a team dedicated to delivering innovative, low-carbon energy solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects. About the Role:
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the mechanical design aspects of building services projects from concept through to completion. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing HVAC systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and cooling
  • Producing detailed mechanical specifications and drawings
  • Carrying out thermal modelling, load calculations, and equipment selection
  • Overseeing mechanical design compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Coordinating with other disciplines and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Contributing to sustainable design strategies and low-energy solutions
  • Managing and mentoring junior engineers as part of project delivery

This hybrid role offers flexibility to split your time between working remotely and collaborating with the team in the Birmingham office.
What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy or similar environment
  • Solid understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical design principles
  • Experience with industry-standard software such as IES, Hevacomp, or Revit
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage projects and deliver high-quality design solutions to deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Working toward or holding professional registration (IEng/CEng) would be advantageous
