We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join a specialist engineering company operating in the infrastructure and civil engineering sector. As a key member of the design team, you’ll be responsible for delivering mechanical systems used in critical infrastructure projects, including bridge bearings, expansion joints, and structural movement solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop bespoke mechanical components and assemblies for use in bridges and large-scale structural systems.
- Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and technical drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Perform engineering calculations and assist with design validation, ensuring compliance with technical standards and performance criteria.
- Collaborate with structural engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are aligned with overall project requirements.
- Prepare and maintain all relevant technical documentation, including design reports, BOMs, and manufacturing specifications.
- Support prototype build, manufacturing, and site installation, including problem-solving and on-site liaison where required.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within infrastructure, structural, or heavy engineering industries.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 2D and 3D design.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes such as fabrication, machining, and assembly.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving ability, and a proactive approach to engineering challenges.
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
