Pure Alchemi is an ambitious clean-tech start-up building next-generation technologies for Net Zero and Negative Emissions. We engineer circular, sustainable energy systems by converting industrial waste and biomass into clean fuels, high-value materials, and captured carbon. Our team blends innovation and impact—working across advanced combustion, CCUS, and sustainable chemical processes. We are growing our engineering team and seeking a Chemical/Process Engineer to support scale-up of our lab-to-industry technologies. This is a unique opportunity to be at the frontier of decarbonisation innovation with a hands-on role in a high-impact start-up.

You will join a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs to help design, model, and develop scalable chemical processes for sustainable manufacturing and low-carbon energy production systems. This includes process design, simulation, lab-to-pilot scale operations, and techno-economic evaluation of key technologies such as waste valorisation, thermal conversion, and carbon capture and utilisation. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy applied R&D, systems thinking, and sustainable innovation. You will contribute to projects at the interface of engineering, climate tech, and circular economy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Simulate and optimise chemical and thermal processes using tools such as Aspen Plus or HYSYS.
  • Contribute to the design of systems for advanced combustion, waste-to-fuel conversion, and resource recovery.
  • Analyse mass and energy balances, emissions profiles, and process performance.
  • Support R&D activities to scale lab technologies toward commercial deployment.
  • Support techno-economic assessments (TEA) and sustainability evaluations of emerging technologies.
  • Work in an agile, collaborative environment to solve engineering challenges and iterate quickly.
Essential Criteria
  • 1st class or 2.1 honours degree in Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Candidates not meeting this requirement will be considered on the basis of exceptional experience.
  • Proficiency with process simulation tools such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, or similar.
  • Sound knowledge of chemical process design, thermodynamics, and reactor modelling.
  • Problem-solving mindset, adaptability, and independence in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
  • Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in chemical or process engineering roles, process scale-up, intensification, or TEA.
  • Prior exposure to start-up or R&D-intensive environments.
  • Interest in circular economy, industrial decarbonisation, or clean energy solutions.
  • Master’s degree or research experience in a relevant engineering field.
Why Join Us?
  • Work at the heart of a mission-driven company tackling real-world environmental challenges.
  • Collaborate with pioneering researchers, engineers, and innovators.
  • Shape technologies that will redefine how we produce energy and materials.
  • Flexible and supportive work culture with growth opportunities in a fast-scaling business.
  • Make an impact—where your ideas help drive sustainable change.
