As Finance Director of Northamptonshire Arts Management Trust, you will be responsible for the financial oversight and leadership of two key organisations, Royal & Derngate Northampton and The Core at Corby Cube. Both charities with important roles to play in the future of their towns, are home to exciting community and education activities that brilliantly complement the exciting productions on their stages. About the Role
Hours of Work: Part-time, minimum of 23 hours per week (flexible working pattern to be agreed with the successful applicant).
Job Purpose
- Ensure the overall effective financial management and reporting for NAMT.
- Lead a clear vision for the strategic financial growth and sustainability as a key member of the Strategic Management Team, to deliver the overall vision and ambitions.
- Deputise for the Chief Executive in all areas relating to Financial Management, Planning and Reporting.
- Drive financial innovation and efficiency and lead opportunities for collaboration across the sector and beyond.
Strategic Management Responsibilities
- Contribute to strategic management by developing and maintaining strategies that encompass the financial operation.
- Participate within SMT and provide vision, direction and leadership in forward planning and the effective daily organisation of NAMT's activities. Strategic areas include but are not limited to business planning, innovation and efficiency, policy and working culture setting, financial forecasting and strategic and commercial decision-making.
- Lead on communication to wider staff team as to the financial imperatives of the Trust to ensure budgets are adhered to in the context of organisation-wide ambition.
- Lead on stakeholder engagement relating to Financial Management.
- Ensure oversight of all quality assurance and compliance.
Requirements
Essential Skills
- Significant experience at senior finance level within a large customer-driven environment and in direct management and control of a minimum £5m turnover operation.
- Proven experience in direct management and supervision of a finance team.
- Experience of organisational change initiatives that improve efficiency, streamline financial processes, and enable greater focus on maximising income opportunities.
- Proven experience of budget preparation, setting and monitoring, financial forecasting and preparing and presenting financial and management accounts, reports and data.
- Strong influencing skills with the ability to direct and motivate to deliver through others.
- Experience of liaising with auditors, business advisers and board members and working with stakeholders and investors.
Knowledge/Qualifications
- Qualified accountant to at least CIMA, ACCA, ACA or CIPFA level.
- Good working knowledge of current accounting software and management systems for all functions, including purchase and sales ledgers, payroll, cash/banking, nominal ledger, and stock.
Skills/Abilities
- Skilled in evaluating business cases, assessing ROI, risk, and sustainability; experienced in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial and operational risks; and implementing financial controls that ensure compliance, reduce risk, and support accurate cross-departmental reporting.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written and excellent interpersonal skills – a team leader and player.
- Strategic, analytical, and report writing skills.
- Flexible and adaptable with the ability to self-motivate and prioritise responsibilities under pressure.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Proven ability to liaise with statutory agencies, e.g. Charity Commission, HMRC.
Desirable
- Understanding and appreciation of the charitable and not-for-profit sector, including Charity Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) and VAT Cultural Exemption.
- Understanding and passion for performing arts, the entertainment sector, and a producing environment.
- Understanding of Theatre Tax Relief.
- Commitment to environmentally sustainable practice.
