On behalf of a fast-growing international EPC contractor that has a strong pipeline of renewable energy, electricity, and offshore wind projects across the UK and Europe, Turner Lovell are looking to recruit a Commissioning Manager with previous experience in HVDC projects. This role offers an exciting opportunity for professionals in construction and commissioning to advance their careers in the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) market segment. The selected candidate will initially work with subject matter experts and eventually take on the role of overall Commissioning Manager for HVDC projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of testing and commissioning for HVDC projects, adhering to health and safety requirements.
  • Prepare the commissioning organization to carry out testing and commissioning as per project planning and procedures.
  • Coordinate with Commissioning Managers, experts, and client counterparts to ensure effective site work.
  • Ensure smooth turnover of primary (HV & MV) and secondary (LV & C&P) equipment installation, focusing on HVDC equipment.
  • Manage diverse commissioning teams and engineers from various product lines.
  • Test and commission EHV/HV AIS & GIS substations and offshore auxiliary systems.
  • Troubleshoot and commission auxiliary systems like battery, UPS, DG, LVS, firefighting, HVAC, etc.
  • Configure and test Control & Protection networks, IEDs, relay configurations, and telecoms.
  • Draft and organize overall commissioning procedures for HVDC Grid Connection Systems.
  • Report site testing and commissioning progress to Project Manager and management team.
  • Control the validation process of Commissioning Test Reports and efficient use of commissioning assets.
  • Manage the handover procedure of marked-up drawings to engineering for as-built drawings.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in a similar role.
  • Strong background in HV power networks topology, operation, and faults.
  • Knowledge in Control & Protection/Substation/Automation system design.
  • Experience with Omicron test kits and HV equipment tests (Tan-delta, SFRA, DCRM).
  • Experience with HV AC and DC cables, including submarine cables.
  • Exposure to HVDC/FACTS systems.
  • Experience in contract document review and technical tender estimation.
  • Proficiency in office tools.
  • Bachelor's degree or B.E in Electric Engineering.
  • Capable of undertaking GWO training for offshore works certification.
  • Leadership skills to manage diverse teams.
