Job Summary
As a GMC-registered Specialist Consultant Psychiatrist, you will assess and manage patients exploring medical cannabis treatment options. You will contribute to robust clinical governance processes and provide high-quality care to patients seeking treatment through our client. Comprehensive support and training in competency-based frameworks and CPD-accredited medical cannabis education will be provided. This is a fully remote role within a multidisciplinary team, offering flexibility and autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess pre-screened patients and determine eligibility for cannabis-based treatment in line with medical cannabis regulations.
- Prescribe cannabis-based medicines where clinically appropriate, following local guidelines and best practice.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team (MDT), including pharmacists and nurse prescribers, to ensure effective treatment plans.
- Oversee shared care arrangements with pharmacist and nurse non-medical prescribers (NMPs), maintaining appropriate clinical oversight.
- Monitor patient response to treatment, adjusting plans as needed and ensuring patient safety and compliance.
- Support other prescribers in the clinic to maintain consistent, evidence-based practices.
- Ensure medical records are accurate and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Educate patients on safe and responsible use of prescribed cannabis-based medicines.
- Stay up to date with clinical research, guidance, and policy changes related to medical cannabis prescribing in the UK.
Requirements
- Full GMC Registration.
- Completion of Specialist Training (CCST/CCT) or equivalent.
- On the GMC Specialist Register for Psychiatry.
- Demonstrated interest in medical cannabis therapies.
- Willingness to engage in clinical outcome data collection.

Indemnity
All clinicians operating within our client’s platform must hold professional and clinical indemnity insurance in accordance with UK regulatory guidelines.
Sessions
Each standard session is 4 hours long. Clinicians choose preferred working days and can spread sessions flexibly. To support onboarding, clinicians must commit to a minimum of 2 sessions (8 hours) per week to gain proficiency with our client’s platform.
Appointment Durations: 15 minutes per appointment for both new and existing patients. Our client uses a multidisciplinary approach, with nurses and pharmacists managing pre-consultation and follow-up prescribing, allowing Consultants to focus on prescribing and patient care.
