The Opportunity

Join one of the UK’s most advanced defence engineering organisations at a time of national growth and transformation. As a Senior Systems Modelling Engineer, you will become part of a team responsible for shaping the future of underwater defence systems using cutting-edge Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices.

You will play a critical role in the early stages of complex programmes—applying your expertise to understand, visualise and optimise system behaviour long before a single component is built. This is a unique opportunity to help define and integrate models that directly influence how systems are designed, verified, and delivered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply MBSE techniques to support the full engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system design, verification and validation.
  • Model user needs, system behaviours and interactions, influencing technical and operational decisions.
  • Capture, validate and maintain design, proving evidence within the system model, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
  • Integrate system-level models with wider platform architecture, ensuring cross-functional alignment.
  • Report on engineering progress, address risks, and support recovery plans where needed.
  • Lead modelling activities across bids, proposals, and strategic project planning.
  • Mentor junior engineers in MBSE tools, techniques and best practices.

Required Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Strong experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering within defence, maritime, or similar complex sectors.
  • Deep understanding of the engineering lifecycle, with practical experience in early-phase design and modelling.
  • Awareness of engineering governance, safety, and environmental compliance standards.

Desirable:

  • Hands-on experience with tools like Enterprise Architect (EA).
  • Proficiency in system modelling languages such as SysML.

This is more than just a modelling role—it is a chance to lead technically, shape programmes from day one, and join a company at the forefront of strategic national capability.
