We are recruiting for a part time, temporary Facilities Support Assistant to work for a well-known charity in York. The position is based within a well-known, large and inclusive community centre in the north of York within a warm and friendly team of people. The purpose of the Facilities Support Assistant is to help with the smooth running of the centre and all its activities, ensuring that the building is safe and welcoming for members of the public and staff and that it complies with all the relevant regulations.

Typical days will involve:

  • Opening and closing the centre at the beginning or end of the day
  • Monitoring public areas and meeting rooms to keep them clean, tidy and welcoming; setting up meeting rooms and all equipment to the customer’s specifications and clearing down after each event
  • Processing recycling and waste as well as undertaking routine inspections to identify required repairs such as painting, plumbing, etc.
  • Maintaining an inventory of Folk Hall contents, furniture, fittings and accessories, and undertaking regular checks of stock levels and quality
  • Providing booking event assistance, facilitating the setting up of IT and audio-visual equipment
  • Undertaking checks of the building in line with Health and Safety requirements and carrying out routine testing of lighting and fire alarm systems
  • Reporting any health and safety concerns or incidents as they arise
  • On occasion, serving behind the bar and keeping bar equipment clean and in working order, selling drinks and snacks and providing relief cover for reception

The successful Facilities Support Assistant will have:

  • Practical experience of basic repairs and maintenance, be competent with basic IT and audio-visual equipment setting up and operation
  • An understanding of the principles of Health & Safety is essential as well as good numeracy, written and verbal communication skills
  • It would be useful if you have worked as a caretaker or in a similar role and have experience of undertaking minor repairs

Hours approx. 21 hours/week (hours alternate weekly between earlies and lates - earlies are 7am-1pm, lates vary depending on bookings but approx. 3.30pm-11pm). Saturdays will be required for some events and one regular Saturday shift (usually every third Saturday). You need to be flexible with your working hours and ready to cover shifts if needed.
