As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades and support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit a Joiner for HMP Hull, East Yorkshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the prison service and can often lead to permanent opportunities.
The post is full-time (39 hours per week) - ongoing temporary with possible opportunity to go permanent subject to performance. We would consider applications from people looking for part-time work willing to do a job share.
Hours worked: Monday - Thursday 07:45am - 16:45pm, Friday working 07:45am - 15:45pm with 1 hour unpaid break. Required: 1 in 3 weekend shift pattern and on-call rota.
The main responsibility for this role is to carry out security practices within the prison whilst subcontractor work is carried out. You will be responsible for:
- Carrying out joinery work to include repairing of doors, windows, signposts, formwork and other bespoke timber items.
- Measuring and quoting for works.
- Ordering materials.
- Maintaining stock of Building Maintenance materials.
- Organising and planning your daily work with the supervisor, to record and submit all details of work carried out on relevant works orders.
- Responsible for joinery workshop - maintenance of machines, statutory inspections, housekeeping and cleanliness.
- Supporting both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
- Ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
Due to the challenging environment of the workplace, the ideal candidate will need to be level-headed, security conscious, able to follow processes and procedures, understand why they are in place, be honest and have the confidence to report any suspicious activity that they see in the prison and be able to use their own initiative.
What you'll need to succeed:
- Level 3 in Joinery & Carpentry.
- Manual tool handling.
- Ladder use.
- Ideally, you will be qualified to NVQ level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery with experience in maintenance. However, we may consider applications if you have NVQ level 2.
You will be flexibly deployed to provide a range of other support service activities within operational areas of an establishment as and when required. This is an operational support job with no line management responsibilities.
You must be able to pass a full prison security clearance and enhanced DBS (if required). You must hold a valid passport or Full Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence at your current address. You must have proof of National Insurance AND proof of address dated in the past 3 months. All applicants must be able to provide details of at least 3 years of satisfactory reference.
