Pipelayer Location: Friston, Suffolk Pay Rate: £20 – £26 ph PAYE/ PAYE UMBRELLA/ CIS UMBRELLA Key Responsibilities: * Interpret and work from construction drawings and plans. * Set out and level trenches using laser levels and dumpy levels. * Excavate and prepare trenches manually or with machinery (in coordination with operators). * Lay pipes (e.g., concrete, clay, PVC, ductile iron) to line and level. * Install manholes, chambers, and catch basins as per design. * Ensure proper pipe bedding and compaction using suitable materials. * Perform jointing and sealing using couplings, gaskets, or welding (where applicable). * Backfill and compact trenches to required specifications. * Work in accordance with site-specific risk assessments and method statements (RAMS). * Coordinate with site supervisors and other trades on-site. * Ensure safe operation around live utilities and existing infrastructure. Qualifications & Experience: * CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) – essential in the UK. * Relevant NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Pipe Laying, Drainage or Groundworks (preferred). * CPCS or NPORS plant tickets (for machinery use) – desirable. * Confined space training – an advantage. * Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant on-site pipelaying experience. Skills & Competencies: * Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and plans. * Proficient in using laser levels, trench boxes, and pipe lasers. * Understanding of health and safety practices in construction. * Good teamwork and communication skills. * Physically fit and able to work in demanding outdoor environments. Working Conditions: * Outdoor work in all weather conditions. * Physically demanding tasks including lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces. * May involve night shifts or weekend work depending on project timelines
