The Employee Relations Business Partner (ERBP) will play a critical role in supporting operational managers across our practices to proactively and effectively manage all employee relations matters. This role focuses on delivering hands-on support and coaching to managers, enabling a shift towards a more consistent, high-performing, and people-centric culture. Regular travel across practices is required to build strong partnerships, resolve issues early, and enhance overall workforce stability.

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Employee Relations Support

  • Manage a portfolio of live employee relations cases, including performance management, absence management, disciplinaries, grievances, and investigations.
  • Provide expert guidance and hands-on case management to ensure fair, timely, and consistent resolution of issues.
  • Support line managers with drafting outcome letters, action plans, and case documentation.
  • Conduct or support formal investigation processes as an independent or supporting party.

Manager Coaching and Upskilling

  • Coach and develop managers in best practices for people management.
  • Deliver targeted training sessions (e.g., managing sickness absence, handling poor performance, conducting investigations). Build manager confidence to address issues informally where appropriate, reducing reliance on formal HR escalation.

Workforce Planning and Insight

  • Identify ER trends and root causes through case tracking and practice engagement.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the People Manager for proactive workforce planning.
  • Support HR metrics reporting on ER case volumes, outcomes, and themes.

Exit Interview and Leaver Insight

  • Manage and oversee the exit interview process for both clinical and support staff.
  • Analyse exit interview data and report actionable trends to leadership to inform retention strategies.

Field Engagement

  • Proactively build strong, trusted relationships with Registered Managers, Regional Managers, and operational teams through regular in-person practice visits.
  • Serve as a visible and accessible HR partner across the field, helping practices embed a values-led culture.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, preventing escalation of people issues through early intervention.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Strong practical knowledge of employee relations practices and UK employment law.
  • Excellent coaching, mediation, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust quickly across all levels of an organisation.
  • Highly organised and able to manage a high volume of cases while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong written communication skills (case notes, letters, reports).
  • Confident in presenting and facilitating training sessions to managers.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and self-motivated, with a proactive approach to field-based working.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an HR Business Partner, ER Advisor, or similar employee relations-focused role.
  • Significant experience in managing absence, disciplinary, grievance, and performance cases from start to finish.
  • Experience in multi-site or healthcare settings (desirable).
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law.
  • CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent experience) preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Flexibility to travel regularly across a network of 36 practices (essential — mileage or travel expenses reimbursed).
  • Full UK driving license and access to a car.
