We are looking for an experienced Payroll Accountant to join our team for a 6 month FTC. Reporting to the Accounting Controls & Recharge Manager, you will be taking ownership of the payroll accounting function - provide an on-going service to the business, ensure that reconciliations are up to date and statutory reporting deadlines are achieved. This role is hybrid with 2 days required in our Chippenham office.
How will you contribute?
- Ensure that the accuracy of the general ledger payroll transactions for Wincanton payrolls.
- Improve and maintain the relationship with the payroll team.
- Support the Senior payroll accounting assistant in the production of the year end statutory reports and annual Insurance exposure data preparation.
- Support the Financial Services Manager with the HY/YE audit requirements.
- Liaise with our external auditors on Payroll.
- Identify areas for continued improvement and create a controls environment in line with the accounting controls framework to mitigate the risk of material error or misstatement.
- Ensure Standard Operating Procedures are available and up to date.

- Technical experience and an understanding of the detailed workings of the balance sheet and can clearly interpret, explain & direct appropriate accounting transactions.
- Ability to assimilate information rapidly, identify key risk and controls, and then make decisions that lead to added value.
- Experience of working with auditors would be an advantage.
