THE COMPANY: We are working with a payments and currency exchange firm in their search for an MLRO to join the firm. The client is based in the Vauxhall & Kennington area of London, with 1 day a week in the office.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the MLRO and Nominated Officer: Receive internal Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs); Review, assess, and investigate SARs; Report SARs to the National Crime Agency (NCA) if required; Provide regular Management Information (MI) updates to the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure appropriate policies, systems, and control processes are developed, implemented, and maintained to address anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorist financing (CTF), anti-fraud, anti-bribery, and other anti-financial crime (AFC) obligations across the group.
  • Provide ongoing support to MLROs across the wider group of affiliated entities.
  • Advise the business on AML compliance matters and the prevention of financial crime.
  • Engage actively in regulatory discussions both within the Compliance Team and with members of the Board and Senior Management Team.
  • Support and coordinate senior management's efforts to manage money laundering and terrorist financing risks within individual business areas.
  • Offer expert advice on financial crime risks, regulatory risks, reputational risks, and related compliance matters.
  • Champion compliance excellence throughout the organisation.
  • Report on all operational AFC activities and respond promptly to reasonable requests for information from the FCA or other law enforcement agencies.
  • Ensure the business monitors and appropriately responds to findings from regulatory bodies regarding money laundering prevention (e.g., audit reports, new or updated regulations and guidance, Dear CEO Letters, compliance events, and industry updates).
  • Establish or enhance written guidelines and AML training programmes for employees.
  • Provide oversight of compliance-related projects and third-party reliance on customer AML procedures.
  • Conduct regular visits to other offices and client sites as part of the AFC oversight function.
  • Monitor the day-to-day operation and effectiveness of AFC policies and procedures.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 8+ years in AML Compliance (second line) within the UK.
  • 3+ years experience as an MLRO within an authorised EMI.
  • 5+ years experience in fintech/ money transfer/ EMRs/ PSRs firms.
  • Experience of undertaking management meetings and engaging in constructive discussions with the senior leadership team.
  • This role does not offer sponsorship – candidates outside of the UK will not be contacted or considered.
  • Purely 1st LOD and KYC candidates will not be considered.
