The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be a key member of the engineering team, responsible for the design and development of complex rotating machinery and drivetrain components. Reporting into the Lead Engineer, you will focus on core areas such as gearbox design, motor integration, shaft/spline interface development, and overall system optimisation for performance and reliability. This is a highly technical, hands-on role supporting the full product lifecycle from concept through to production.
- Design and develop mechanical systems for electric drive units, with focus on rotating machinery, gearboxes, and spline shaft interfaces.
- Perform and review mechanical calculations, stress analysis, and tolerance stack-ups.
- Generate detailed 3D CAD models and fully toleranced drawings to industry standards.
- Carry out mechanical FEA using ANSYS or similar tools to support structural and fatigue analysis.
- Evaluate new materials and manufacturing methods to enhance product durability and efficiency.
- Support the transition of designs into production including BOM creation, test plan coordination, and supplier liaison.
- Participate in design reviews, DFMEAs, and validation planning.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry and internal quality standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams.
Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Strong background in mechanical design of rotating machinery, e.g., proven experience with spline shaft design, tolerancing, and mechanical jointing. Proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar) for 3D modelling and drawing creation. Experienced in mechanical FEA (preferably ANSYS) including structural and dynamic analysis. Solid understanding of design for manufacture, reliability, and cost optimisation. Familiar with industry standards and compliance requirements for mechanical systems.
