We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Pipeline Application Engineer to support the design, manufacture, implementation, and maintenance of novel pipeline visualization tools, “PIG” systems and applications. The ideal candidate will work cross-functionally with technology, R&D, operations, engineering, 3rd parties and IT teams to ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of pipeline applications and associated technologies. The ideal candidate is a highly experienced self-starter, capable of working autonomously and coming up with solutions with limited oversight. Must have a winning mentality and a can-do attitude to give customers the best solution possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot pipeline simulation and hydraulic modelling software (e.g., Synergi Gas, Synergi Pipeline, AFT, PipeSim).
- To use customer provided pipeline information, and design inhouse technology to ensure piggability of the pipeline is achieved and hardware is made available.
- Support the integration of SCADA, leak detection systems, and control room applications for real-time pipeline monitoring.
- Collaborate with pipeline integrity, operations, and IT teams to implement digital tools that enhance operational reliability and decision-making.
- Analyze pipeline data to optimize performance, identify anomalies, and support incident response and reporting.
- Develop and maintain scripts and tools for automation, reporting, and data analysis.
- Participate in system upgrades, testing, and commissioning of new pipeline visualization & pigging technologies.
- Ensure all application solutions comply with industry regulations (e.g., PHMSA, DOT 49 CFR Parts 192/195) and internal standards.
- Provide training and technical support to engineering and operations personnel specific to Pipeline Pigging, ILI, Design.
- Document workflows, system designs, and user procedures.
- Assist in training end-users and supporting change management for new technologies.
- Support/lead identification of complementary technologies/companies that can add value and be run in tandem with inhouse technologies to provide value for the customers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Corrosion, Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automation, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in a similar engineering or application support role (pipeline or software domain).
- Proficiency in pipeline simulation and hydraulic modelling tools. Be competent in providing pig-ability designs/reports for inhouse and 3rd party pipeline pig trains.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, leak detection systems, and control room operations.
- Experience working with data visualization/reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI, PI System) and basic scripting (e.g., Python, VBA, SQL).
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements related to pipeline safety and integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or in progress.
- Experience with GIS systems and pipeline data management (e.g., PODS).
- Working knowledge of asset integrity tools, inline inspection data and ASNT level data analysis.
