Job Description

Job Title: Operational Insight Analyst (SQL & Python)

£55,000 – £65,000 + excellent benefits

Hybrid

Are you an analyst who thrives on solving real business problems — the kind that affect delivery routes, depot performance, and inventory planning — using data, not just dashboards?

We’re hiring an Operational Insight Analyst to partner with supply chain, logistics, and operational leads. You’ll dig into the data (mostly in SQL), build performance insight (sometimes using Python), and support key decisions around efficiency, cost control, and service delivery.

This isn’t a data scientist role. It’s a business-facing, hands-on analyst position — ideal for someone who enjoys using data to make things run better.

What you’ll do

  • Interrogate large datasets in SQL to analyse depot efficiency, delivery timelines, stock levels, and service bottlenecks
  • Use Python (Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn/statsmodels) to apply performance models or forecasting where needed
  • Build and maintain some Power BI dashboards — but you won’t be buried in reporting
  • Work closely with the business — you’ll be in the room, translating the data into clear, actionable insight
  • Identify underperforming areas (e.g. depots, stock issues) and help the business understand what needs to change

What we’re looking for

  • Strong SQL skills — must be confident writing complex queries and working with operational datasets
  • Good working knowledge of Python for analysis (forecasting, clustering, or simple modelling — not production ML)
  • Experience working with Power BI for internal reporting
  • Background in supply chain, logistics, or operational analytics is a big plus
  • Confident communicator who enjoys working directly with people across the business
  • Curious, hands-on, commercially aware

Example Projects

  • What’s slowing delivery routes across underperforming depots?
  • How can we optimise inventory to reduce cashflow strain?
  • Can we predict where service issues might occur next quarter?
  • Which products are frequently mis-picked or overstocked?
