About the company

I am currently recruiting on behalf of a Global Technology company specialising in Mobility Engineering, based in Coventry, Peterborough or Basildon, who are seeking a Component Engineer to join their team.

Our Client has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic Engineer and/or Senior Engineer to join their thriving DDI Department (Design, Development and Industrialisation) based in either Coventry, Peterborough or Basildon. This is yet to be determined based on the project demands. This is an opportunity to play a crucial part in the development of modern passenger car and heavy-duty powertrain systems.

The Component Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, sign-off and release of powertrain components. The engineers will support the customer team to identify, analyse, and resolve complex problems and requirements in the field of structural and/or electrical components, battery components, ICE or fuel cell. The engineers delivering this role will be suitably qualified in design and have component engineering experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Component design (proficiency in at least 1 CAD package is expected)
  • Following of automotive development process (from concept to production)
  • Knowledge of design for manufacture (manufacturing processes selection, material selection and process control technologies), machining techniques and technologies and tolerance design
  • Ability to interpret CAE and CFD analysis data to determine impact on the component design
  • Development of FMEA and design verification test plans
  • Ability to analyse test data results and impact on design
  • Support component specifications for sign-off
  • Preparation of reports (verbal & written), providing robust recommendations and proposals
  • Liaison with, and report to, multiple functional groups within the organisation
  • Travel between other sites and suppliers within the UK and internationally may be required
  • Support client project discussions
  • Demonstrate & promote the Clients' competences and services within client teams

Essential:

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, Mechatronics Engineering or similar (min 2:1)
  • Good understanding of vehicle/powertrain system and component requirements (ICE, e-machines, hybrid systems, battery systems, etc)
  • Knowledge of GD&T, FMEA, DVP&R, 8D Techniques
  • Strong communication, teamwork and leading abilities
  • Excellent communication skills in written & verbal English
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines
  • Capable of working independently as well as part of large and small teams
  • Driving license
  • Willingness to travel
  • Open minded, flexible 'can do' attitude
  • Motivated, passionate & committed to excellence

Preferable:

  • Specific experience on Battery, Fuel cell or ICE Design & Development
  • Masters or PhD in specific subject area
  • Member of a relevant professional institute (e.g. IET, IMechE)
  • Knowledge/Experience in CAD tools such as Catia, NX or equivalent
