We are seeking a highly skilled Packaging Sustainability Technologist to support our business and be our expert in sustainable packaging. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in packaging materials, sustainability practices, and regulatory compliance to be able to support our clients’ journey toward more sustainable products and practices. The role is FTC for 12 months (maternity cover) with possibility to become permanent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Business support: Contribute to clients’ reporting, meetings and commercial proposals. Create bespoke presentations for specific clients and projects.
- ESG compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, industry standards, and corporate sustainability goals: plastic tax reporting, update the FSC supplier audits, realise the EPR report. Monitor industry trends, emerging regulations, and technological advancements in sustainable packaging.
- Eco-design: Conduct life cycle assessments (LCA) to measure carbon footprint and sustainability metrics of packaging materials. Evaluate and recommend eco-friendly materials and processes for packaging design and production. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, procurement, project development and sales, to integrate sustainable packaging solutions. Assess the environmental impact of current packaging methods and suggest improvements. Provide technical guidance on recyclability, composability, and biodegradable packaging options.
- ESG reporting: Participate in the global ESG data collection and reporting. Participate in the ESG external reporting (EcoVadis, CDP, etc.).
- Communication: Organise internal communication events on ESG for employees. Contribute to the ESG internal communication supports (intranet, newsletter, etc.). Create and facilitate ESG workshops with clients. Develop ESG reports, documentation, and presentations on sustainable packaging initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Packaging Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in packaging technology, with a focus on sustainability.
- Strong understanding of ESG principles, circular economy, and sustainable material selection.
- Knowledge of global environmental regulations and packaging compliance standards.
- Experience with life cycle assessment (LCA) tools and sustainability reporting frameworks.
- Strong skills in project management and in data analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
