Our client is currently recruiting for a driven Transport Supervisor to support the operational needs of their transport department to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective day-to-day running of transport operations. Your role will involve overseeing and managing day-to-day operational aspects of the transport department. Coordinate, with a hands-on approach, and ensure consistent priorities and performance. Liaise between Head Office and other sites and contribute towards a best-for-business approach. To ensure that daily tasks are completed while maintaining high standards of health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- To manage the day-to-day transport operations ensuring operational requirements are met.
- Responsibility for performance and review of operational procedures and risk assessments.
- Maintain all Transport departmental Safe Systems of Work and Risk assessments in partnership with the Fleet Compliance Manager and SHEQ Manager and ensure these are reviewed as per company process.
- Perform internal audits as required.
- To review departmental near misses to establish and implement learning and best practices.
- To investigate all departmental accidents/incidents/RTA ensuring final reports are distributed to the Transport & SHEQ Managers where required.
- Plan, execute, review, and manage all training requirements for the Transport Driver Team including the design of driver training material that evolves in line with legislation and company requirements.
- Regularly conduct annual driver assessments including performance reviews, where necessary arrange additional training.
- Ensure driver training register is maintained and reviewed annually with refresher training instigated where necessary.
- Monitor and manage vehicle telematics and driver Tachograph using company systems.
- Monitor driver hours records ensuring all drivers operate within their legal obligations, address as required with drivers regarding infringements.
- Support the Fleet Compliance Manager in regard to vehicle maintenance and driver education in line with Operator licence requirements.
- Ensure all transport department vehicle equipment is maintained and checked regularly to minimise operational downtime.
People Management
- Ensure personal development of the team is an ongoing focus.
- Adherence to the Company's Health and Safety Policy ensuring all employees, within areas of responsibility, are compliant.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Required
- Proactive and safety-focused approach.
- Good people manager, proven experience of leading Transport Driver Team is preferable.
- Good understanding of O'licence obligations and regulations.
- Excellent knowledge of EU driver hour regulation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Logical in approach with the ability to analyse data and formulate action plans.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective and positive working relationships within and outside of the department.
- Good conflict resolution skills based on a 'Can do' attitude.
- Must demonstrate high levels of integrity and adopt a professional approach in all interactions - should be transparent, open and honest in all dealings.
- PC and technical knowledge and skills with a good working knowledge of the Microsoft packages including Word and Excel.
Desirable
- Experienced HGV Class 1 & 2.
- Valid Driver CPC card and Driver Tachograph card.
- Experience of operating tankers/pipework and pumps.
- Experience working within the waste industry most desirable, however, alternate industries (manufacturing, oil, gas, fuel, food) with relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience of behavioural safety/culture change.
- ISOH General Certificate (or equivalent).
