Christ’s College Canterbury Lead Counsellor Christ’s College was established in 1850 and with a current roll of 739 is currently New Zealand’s only independent school for boys, catering for Y9–13. College is seeking an experienced counsellor to lead its counselling services on a full-time basis (remuneration will be across both term time and the College vacation periods). The role will oversee a budget, manage workflows, liaise regularly around cases with appropriate staff, advise on policies/process based on best practice and provide regular reports to the deputy principal and executive principal. The role will also manage and support one counsellor as a direct report and determine professional development opportunities where appropriate for both the counsellor and staff involved with pastoral care. The lead counsellor will also engage directly with students for the provision of counselling and plans that define goals for clients that can be met ‘in-house’ and refer those with more intensive, acute and/or complex needs to third-party providers. The successful candidate will be empathetic, organised, a skilled communicator and enjoy working with children. Ideally, they would maintain professional membership and registration with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC), or a similar professional association, and comply with their Code of Ethics. They may or may not be a currently registered teacher in New Zealand. Applicants for this position should have current NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa. Ideally, we would prefer a start date of 27 January 2025 but this is flexible for the successful candidate.
