The predicted salary is between 28800 - 43200 £ per year.

This opportunity is based in Derby, but we have Graduate Geo-Environmental and Graduate Geotechnical roles all over the UK so please still apply if you have an Earth Science degree.

Our client is a practice of Geotechnical, Environmental and multidisciplinary Consultants; they undertake site investigations, desk studies, geotechnical engineering assessment and investigations of contaminated sites. The projects are undertaken on a nationwide basis and run from their offices all over the UK.

The duties would be expected to be developed having been given direct practical training, guidance and direction in the execution of fieldwork and reporting on geotechnical and geo-environmental matters.

  • Undertake desk study assessments of land under consideration for development by researching available records and data, including (but not exclusively) historical, ordnance survey and geological mapping records, mining records and available ground investigation publications. Including where instructed undertaking a site reconnaissance to identify site features.
  • Write desk study reports based on the findings above, including factual aspects, advising on geotechnical constraints, potential risk from contamination due to previous or adjoining land use and recommending the invasive investigation work phase.
  • Undertake site visits in respect of soil validation sampling, groundwater sampling, gas monitoring, with associated analysis of laboratory testing results and reporting.
  • Initiating Statutory Undertakers and service provider’s enquiries in respect of ground investigations, mobilising suitable plant for the execution of investigations and coordinating access prior to site attendance.
  • Attending site during the investigation process to direct fieldwork, record trial hole and borehole, undertake insitu testing, organise and retain soil samples for future analysis.
  • Assess retained soil samples, prepare samples for laboratory testing, receive results and analyse and record results.
  • Prepare report appendices, including (but not exclusively) trial hole and borehole logs, site and location plans, site history records, tabulated testing results etc.
  • Develop the skills in relation to the preparation of factual and interpretive reporting, recording the site, its location, and context within the landscape, local geology, history of the site and impacts from the previous occupancy, describing the investigation process and records obtained.
  • Develop the reporting skills further in preparing interpretive contents describing the geotechnical constraints on future development, impacts on construction materials and techniques, and providing solutions/design parameters for sub-structure options related to the development proposals.
  • Develop the skills in ground contamination assessments, determining the strategies and validating remediation schemes and reporting on associated matters.
  • Liaison with clients, design team professionals, approval bodies and individuals on project matters.
  • Assist in all areas of project and general office administration as required including (but not exclusively), general enquiries, report production, resource planning, programming, ordering, and similar matters.

The duties detailed above are not exhaustive and other ad hoc duties may be required and will be added where necessary to assist the company. In-house training will be provided to allow the duties to be discharged in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.
