The opportunity
With the continuing and rapid development of tax technology solutions and in particular Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions, it is necessary to enhance our operational models to achieve success in the future. In preparation for the future, EY Tax and Law have created a new Centre of Excellence (CoE) to support SaaS solutions throughout their lifecycle. The objectives of the SaaS CoE are twofold:
- Operational management of Tax and Law SaaS solutions
- Sales enablement and support to drive the market success of these solutions
The SaaS CoE currently supports Tax and Law solutions including Global VAT Reporting Tool (GVRT), Global Tax E-invoicing Solution (GTES), Mandatory Disclosure Regime (MDR) Web, EY GloBE Engine (Pillar II/BEPS) and Data Permissions Navigator (DPN), and this number of solutions is expected to grow rapidly.
Your key responsibilities
EY is looking for an Indirect Tax Lead to help develop and manage its ground-breaking product GTES, which looks to reimagine how our clients can manage their global e-invoicing and e-reporting obligations in this dynamic and rapidly growing area. As part of our new Global SaaS business, you will work with our Solution Owner, as well as Product, Technical and Functional Leads to develop GTES from proof-of-concept to production. The Indirect Tax Lead for GTES will contribute to the development, implementation and tax strategy underpinning GTES. This role will be instrumental in ensuring that GTES meets regulatory requirements, enhances tax compliance, and delivers value to our clients. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to help define tax technical requirements and ensure alignment with the overall product strategy.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Working with senior EY leaders to support the development of the global strategy around the future of Indirect Tax compliance, ensuring GTES aligns with overarching EY's vision
- Working across the ecosystem of EY Indirect Tax compliance solutions, including the Global VAT Reporting Tool (GVRT), to improve interoperability and enhance overall effectiveness
- Staying up to date with emerging trends and changes in tax regulations and e-invoicing technologies, to ensure the GTES remains competitive and compliant
- Supporting the drafting of thought leadership around Indirect Tax technology and compliance, contributing to EY's reputation as a leader in the field
- Contributing to the provision of tax requirements for the solution, ensuring comprehensive compliance with local and international tax laws
- Providing tax technical guidance and support to project teams throughout the development and implementation process
- Providing tax technical input into documentation related to GTES, including technical specifications, user guides, and training materials
- Conducting thorough testing and validation of GTES to ensure accuracy and compliance with local and international tax laws
- Supporting adherence to key EY processes, including the Tax Technology Approval Roadmap (TTAR), as well as other Tax Quality (TQ) and Independence requirements
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including technology, product management, and client services, to ensure GTES meets client needs and tax regulatory requirements
- Building and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.

We are looking for people with excellent communication abilities with relevant experience in a commercial position. Confidence and maturity to work effectively with senior leaders across the Business Unit and beyond. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Knowledge of the software development cycle and project management methodologies is an advantage. Proven relationship management abilities to work effectively with clients, project teams and vendors across multiple geographies. Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision making. To qualify for the role, you must have:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CTA) preferred
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in taxation, with a strong focus on VAT/GST and e-invoicing or digital tax solutions, including experience at a managerial level
- Strong understanding of global tax regulations and compliance requirements related to VAT/GST and e-invoicing
- Proficiency in tax technology solutions and software is an advantage
Ideally, you'll also have:
- Work experience in a professional services industry
- Familiarity with EY internal processes would be an advantage
- Prior experience on other e-invoicing products would be helpful
